Grade Level: __6-7th Grade_______
Date: __10/21/11__
Time: __10:00 a.m. –
10:50 a.m.__
Reflection
from prior lesson: Students are becoming
familiar with Word and its features.
Lesson Goal(s) / Standards: NBEA IV Input Technologies: Use touch-keyboarding
skills to enter and manipulate text.
Lesson
Objectives: Students will be given a non-formatted
restaurant menu. They will choose a restaurant
name for the title of their menu. The
menu will have beverages, deserts, and sandwiches listed. They will be instructed to bold all of the
headings, italicize the items under each heading, underline the prices, and
center and bold the menu title with a 90% accuracy.
Materials
Needed: Computer with Microsoft
Word 2003 or later with access to a printer and email/internet.
Contextual
Factors/ Learner Characteristics: The
classroom is made up of 10 boys and 12 girls.
The students are attentive when the material is interesting or when it
relates to them. There is one student
named Jimmy that is very distracting to others.
When Jimmy is paying attention and listening, the whole class follows
suit.
A. The Lesson
1.
Introduction
(about 5 minutes)
·
I will get
students attention by asking them their favorite restaurants menus and what
catches their eye when they read the menus.
·
This relates to
the students because we eat out and read the menus almost every time before we
decide on what to eat.
·
We need to know
how to make these menu choices look appealing.
·
We will learn how
to format text and ultimately transform a plain document into an interesting
and creative document.
2.
Content
Delivery (about 15 minutes, use projector)
·
I will use the projection
and have a word document open to follow along with.
·
I will explain
the different types of formatting and the benefits of each.
·
We will have
discussions on the main formatting options.
·
I will
demonstrate how to apply bold, italicize, and underline to words as well as
whole documents.
·
Short cut keys
will also be taught and practiced.
·
I will go around
to each student and watch him or her practice my oral instructions before the
assignment is given.
3.
Closure (30
minutes)
·
The students will
have until the end of the class period to work on this assignment.
·
I can come around
to help, but the assignment will be due at the end of class.
·
Explain to them
that we will continually work on this menu, so be thinking of some ideas over
the weekend that we can add to our menu in the following class periods.
B. Assessments Used
The students will download the menu document. They will then format it so that the headings
are bolded (beverages, sandwiches, deserts), the items must be italicized, and
the prices must be underlined. The menu
title must be bolded, centered, and 26-size font. The menu title must also be an original name
that the students create themselves. The
finished document needs to be printed off with your name on it by the end of
class on 10/21/11. This must all be done with 90% accuracy.
C. Differentiated Instruction
I will have used visual instruction with the use of
the projector. I have also utilized
verbal instruction by walking around the classroom and giving verbal instructions,
and kinesthetic learning occurred throughout this lesson by the use of the
keyboard.
